The Dark Knight - Review

I had the honor of staying up until midnight last night to catch a sold-out showing of The Dark Knight in my area and let me just say that I loved every minute of it. Well, almost every minute of it, there were a few parts of dialogue that I felt could have been dropped or shortened, but overall the movie was incredible. I don't want to sit here and write about what the movie was about, or my favorite scenes in the movie, because I don't want to spoil anything for anyone that reads this. What I will tell you is probably everything you've already heard the critics say, but I will back them up and say that it could be the best comic book movie ever made.

The movie plays out like a typical mobster movie, but throw in the caped crusader and the joker and you have a hell of a movie. Heath Ledger definitely stole the show, every time he was on screen I got chills. And no I didn't get chills because of the circumstances, the joker genuinely gave me chills, he was that freaky-good. I think in the entire movie there are only 2 complaints I could possibly have, and even these weren't that big of a deal to me. First, the sonar cell phone thing near the end took the movie a little bit too far out of reality for me. I know, I know... it's fucking batman, he's not real, his world is not real, blah blah. I know this, but the rest of the movie plays out as if all of this stuff is happening in the real world and then there is this ridiculous bit of technology that just pulled me out a little bit, but again minor complaint. My other complaint was how Gotham City looked. In Batman Begins the city is overrun by the mob, falling apart, there are these multi-level trains racing through the city, Wayne Towers is a massive... tower, not just an office building, etc. I understand that we see Gotham mostly at night in Batman Begins, and in The Dark Knight, it's mostly light out, but it just seemed like 2 different cities. But being from Chicago, it was cool to see our city being featured as Gotham, especially with the mob history in Chicago, it just seems fitting.

So other than those 2 little issue, which aren't even really issues, the movie was incredible. If this doesn't beat the weekend box office record, I don't think any movie ever will. Go check this out, don't do it just for Heath Ledgers performance, do it for a great movie.
